WORSHIPPING CHRIST
- Pastor Biakson

Scripture Reference:  Matthew 2:1-12

The theme for this year’s Christmas is “Come, worship Christ”. Jesus Christ, our Savior is the Messiah foretold by the Prophet Moses in the book of Genesis and by other Prophets like Samuel, Isaiah, Micah, Malachi and Daniel. The fulfillment of the prophecy concerning Christ’s birth to the minutest detail reveals God’s faithfulness. Christmas makes us see that God is faithful to His promises and is trustworthy, dependable and worthy of our worship.

THE WORSHIP OF CHRIST BY THE WISE MEN

The wisest thing to do is to worship Christ. The wise men knew what worship demands and paid the price to worship Christ. Worship demands giving our body, will and mind (Romans 12). It is being transformed by the renewing of our mind and not conforming to the world. Worship is giving first place to God and filling our mind with Him.

The wise men worshipped Christ led by the Holy Spirit. They saw God’s revelation through their profession when they looked at the skies. God is manifest in everything. We need to open our spiritual eye to see it. Secondly, they were guided by the scriptures in Micah 5:2 which foretold the birth of a ruler/king in Bethlehem. Worship is reading, studying and meditating on God’s words. It is living in accordance with the teachings of the scriptures. Thirdly, they followed the Star, God’s guiding light. Worship requires being in God’s presence, walking with Him and being led by His guiding light at all times.

THE GIFTS OF THE WISE MEN

Worship is giving. Besides giving their time and coming out of their comfort zone, the wise men gave their treasures - gold, frankincense and myrrh. These gifts symbolises the kingship and deity of Christ and how He would become the sacrificial lamb for the sins of mankind. Worship is making Jesus king of our lives.  It is the recognition that He is the one true God and surrendering our all to Him in worship, even if we have to suffer for His sake.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Come, worship Christ. There is wisdom and victory in worshipping Him. Let His worship ring out in our lives, family and church. God has given what is best for us - His only begotten son. Ponder over what you can give Him in return. For in Christ, we have everything we could ever want – wealth, happiness, greatness, contentment and peace. And may the presence of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit be with us all to worship Christ in true spirit.
