# Sermon by Pastor Lamkhanthang

RESPONSIBILITY of PARENTS for DRAWING NEARER TO GOD

He started with a real-life example of how often we treat our pets better than our children. Ephesians 6:4 was chosen as the basis for the sermon. He remarked that the responsibility of parents towards their children could be more significant than that of the Pastor toward the Church members.

Nurturing children may entirely be the parent’s responsibility, but this is not always the case. Good parents do not always have good children. We also find good children with bad parents. Even in Bible, we see good priests like Samuel, but his children Joel and Abhilash lived a life of corruption. Does this mean that children who were meant to be good will indeed be good, and children who were meant to be bad will be good irrespective of how parents nurture their children? This is a half-truth and one of the biggest lies that Satan has taught us. The Bible has given parents clear responsibility, and this belief would make parents act against the Bible. We, as parents, should not allow children to do whatever they want. We should limit what they want so that they can understand the word of God and receive salvation.

Equally important for a parent is not to make their children angry while they are expected to obey their parents. This is irrespective of whether parents have a sore, undisciplined child or a disciplined child. What makes children angry against their parents is often because parents do not discipline them with the word of God. Even today, parents do not use the word of God to nurture them but rather use it to point out their sins in a hypocritical manner. Parents are often dictatorial at home and want their child to obey their every word when parents themselves are not free of sins. Parents need to nurture their children with the word of God and not to their whims and fancies.

Finally, when the faith we professed to our children is not reflected in our lives, our teachings and advice will have no impact on children. Children often see action rather than the words we profess or preach.
